Shop with us! Every purchase makes a difference
In October 2022 in Mount Airy and March 2023 in Sparta, our thrift shops both relocated and underwent a complete transformation with an enhanced selection of pre-loved furniture, home decor, and clothing. The new store aims to look and feel different from other charity shops. We named it The Humble Hare because we wanted a whimsical name to match the cheerful vibe of our new store.
The Humble Hare provides a curated, vibrant shopping experience for those who appreciate nice things at a fair price. When you shop at The Humble Hare, not only are you purchasing a high-quality item at an affordable price, but you are also making a difference in the lives of hospice patients and their families.
100% of the proceeds from The Humble Hare help to pay for end-of-life care and related services for uninsured and underinsured patients who lack the financial resources to pay for their care.
Donate! Help stock the store
When you donate a quality item to The Humble Hare, you are helping raise funds to support hospice patients and their families in our community. Mountain Valley Hospice is a registered 501(c)3 organization (Tax-ID 56-1346589) and your donation is tax-deductible as permitted by law. All items must be clean and in new or gently used condition with only slight signs of wear.
View our Donation Guidelines for a complete list of what we can and cannot accept.
- If you would like to donate furniture, please call the store ahead of time.

If you have a large donation and would like to request a free pick up, please call the store.
We take great pride in the quality of our donations to generate revenue to support the most vulnerable members of our community. A couple of questions to ask yourself before bringing your donations: If you needed it, would you buy it in this condition? Would you feel comfortable giving that item to a friend, neighbor, or family member? If you are unsure about whether or not we will accept a particular item, please contact us before bringing it to the shop. Also, we kindly ask that you do not leave donations outside the store.
